Eroica is famous as the vintage bike festival that challenges you to ride a pre 1987 bike on the famous Strade Bianche in Tuscany. But you can now ride those beautiful white gravel roads on the Eroica route on a modern bike. Eroica Nova, on 30th April, includes timed segments and the opportunity to compete in a Gran Fondo style sportive.
The success of Eroica brought back the white roads to professional cycling when the Strade Bianche was promoted to world tour status. The tricky terrain often produces spectacular racing. As Giancarlo Brocci, the man behind Eroica says, “On the white roads the race becomes alive, courage is vital as is the capacity to master the vehicle, the team has less influence and anything can happen.”
There is a choice of 73, 89, 150 and 206 km routes, all of which cost €40. The longer distances include over 4,000 metres of climbing, so not for the feint hearted. Children and teenagers up to the age of 13 years can participate for free on a 27km leisure route. The festival is based in Buonconvento.
