Take pity on poor Ukrainian rider, Oleksander Sheyduk, who was the only rider to take the correct route on Wednesday’s Tour of Ukraine. Sheyduk was on a solo breakaway and was the only rider to cross the line as the following peloton took a wrong turn inside the final 20km. Cycling Weekly reported that his victory was taken away from him as the commissaire cancelled the stage and put in place a 5km lap to decide placings instead.
Local rider Sheyduk, had waited six years for a victory. His team, PCM Kuota boycotted the restarted race stating that the rules stipulate that the riders should know where they are going.
Later that evening Fabio Calabria complained in a tweet: “No hot water in hotel and riders turned away from dinner without food. How did this race get status?”
