Peter Sagan - Rio's MTB Wildcard

We've enjoyed a fantastic couple of Olympic cycling weeks. But there's been a noticeable absence to date - the Slovakian World Champion, Peter Sagan. 

One of the peloton's more colourful characters, Peter Sagan surprised some by announcing that he would not be competing on the road or the track in Rio. Instead, he's going back to his roots to race on a mountain bike.

Rio Velodrome Fears

Fears were raised this week about the completion of the velodrome in time for the Rio Olympics when the city government cancelled its contract with Tecnosolo, the company constructing it.

 

The velodrome is the most delayed of Rio’s Olympic venues. An indoor cycling test event scheduled for April had already been cancelled because it wasn’t ready.
