Maserati, the sponsors of the cycling category for this year’s Cross Sports Awards, sent ITV’s cycling commentary team of David Millar and Ned Boulting out for a drive in the glorious Peak District to discuss this year’s finalists.
Taking a bit of time out from commentating on the Tour de Yorkshire and nestled into the luxury of the Levante SUV, the pair share a bit of banter as they sum up the six-book shortlist in the video below.
Millar won this award in 2016, something he’s keen to remind the twice nominated Ned Boulting, and is one of the judges of this year’s award. It’s another role to add to his wide portfolio of post retirement occupations. Along with creating his Chapter III clothing range, being an ambassador for Maserati and his commentary work for ITV, he certainly seems to be thoroughly enjoying his retirement!
Millar will be joined by Martin Johnson, the Rugby world Cup winning captain (and keen cyclist), BBC commentator Simon Brotherton and sports presenter Jill Douglas in deciding on a winner which will be announced on 24th May at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
The shortlist comprises of:
Jens Voigt: ‘Shut Up Legs!’
Danny MacAskill: ‘At The Edge’
Laura Trott and Jason Kenny: ‘The Inside Track’
Tim Moore: ‘The Cyclist Who Went Out in the Cold’
Chris Boardman: ‘Triumphs and Turbulence’
David Coventry, ‘The Invisible Mile’
Millar and Boulting end the video with a bike ride into the hills of the Peak District, Millar’s “old stomping ground." Sadly for Boulting it was Millar who took a Maserati home at the end of the weekend (see below).
